Probate, also known as a decedent’s estate proceeding, is the court-supervised process used to determine how certain assets are administered and distributed after a person’s death. Not every asset is subject to probate, and the process can vary depending on whether a person dies with or without a will. As a result, probate can be complex and time-consuming.
